Alex Scott has enjoyed an impressive year having joined the Academy setup at the start of 2020.
The 17-year-old midfielder has played at both Under-18 and Under-23 level, with his latest appearance in the Under-23s’ 2-1 win over Watford on Tuesday.
The former Guernsey FC player played the full 90 minutes against the Hornets, with goals from Harry Leeson and Zak Smith firing the young Robins towards three points and retaining their spot at the top of the Professional Development League South.
“It’s been brilliant,” he said, reflecting on his time with the club. “Since I came in there’s always been someone to speak to and I feel at home. I’ve been here a year now and it’s just got easier and easier to settle. I’m enjoying my football with both the Under-18s and Under-23s so it’s really good!”
And the teenager was impressed by another win for Alex Ball’s development side at the Optima Stadium.
“I thought we started well and were compact as a team,” said Scott. “Going forward we were confident and that was pleasing because we have worked on it in training.
“In the second half we dropped more defensively but you could see the fight from all the boys and we worked hard to get the three points.”
Scott also played alongside Joe Williams, who completed a little over an hour as planned. Williams is returning to fitness before turning his attentions to first-team football and Scott explained how his presence around the youngsters has been beneficial.
Scott continued: “He’s quality and you can see what he brings to the pitch. He brings out the best in us, even before the game and in the warm-up he’s talking to us. He’s a big motivator for us, we’re able to learn from him and as we can all see on the pitch, he’s a special talent.”
The young Robins are next in action at home against Charlton Athletic (February 9th, 2pm KO).
