Summer signing Sammie Szmodics already feels at home in BS3 after a strong pre-season so far.
With four goals to his name, the 23-year-old is already on the way to making himself a fan favourite and he is already enjoying the atmosphere.
“It’s a big step up, there’s a lot of new patterns and new players I’ve got the play with but I think it’s coming to the point now where I’m linking, I’m understanding what’s going on and it’s can only improve from there," he explained.
“I always knew it was a big club, a good club but I’m really enjoying myself.
“The fans have made me feel really welcome, so have the players so I just want to push on.”
While Szmodics made his Colchester United debut at Ashton Gate, Saturday’s match with Crystal Palace (July 27th, 3pm KO) will be his first home appearance in as a Robin.
The midfielder spoke of his excitement to get out and play in front of his new supporters: “To wear the red and play against Premier League opposition is going to be challenging but it’s something we’re all looking forward to.”
Season Tickets for the 2022/23 campaign are selling at a record pace, with more than 9,000 supporters already committed.
