Callum Robinson believes Bristol City’s style of play will come good in the Sky Bet Championship in the long term.
The forward signed on a season-long loan from Aston Villa on Friday and made his debut in the 2-0 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
It was Robinson’s first outing in the second tier after spending last year in League One with Preston North End, and the youngster noticed the patience needed on the ball in the division.
He told Bristol City Player HD: “In League One, it’s a bit like ‘you have it, we have it’ whereas there is more quality in this league and there’s more possession.
“If you lose it you’re not going to get it back so quick so you have to learn.
“We tried to keep the ball and break them down. Unfortunately it didn’t work (on Saturday) but I think it will in the long term.”
Robinson met up with the squad just 48 hours prior to kick off the opening match of the campaign at Hillsborough.
The 20-year-old was keen to make an impression in his 21 minute spell and is looking forward to showing his team-mates what he is capable of, starting with Luton Town in the Capital One Cup tomorrow night (7.45pm).
“I only met the lads Thursday so they don’t know a lot about me yet,” he said.
“I was happy to get on the pitch and show them and the gaffer (Steve Cotterill) certain things I can do and try and be a threat.
“It was good to get some minutes so they can get to know me more.”
He added: “It’ll be a big game (against Luton). Every game is a big game in my eyes.
“We’ll go with the same philosophy and hopefully we can knock a few past them."
