Robins Foundation project yields impressive results

The first 12-week programme of the Foundation’s FIT Robins project has helped City fans improve their fitness and lose weight.

Over the course of the free 12-week programme the group of City fans involved in the FIT Robins project have lost in excess of 200kg, with many also seeing dramatic improvements in their blood pressure.

FIT Robins participant John Davey, who lost over 9kg, told the Foundation: “The sessions are very enjoyable with a good balance of classroom-based lessons and fitness. I have been surprised with just much weight I have lost, I have even had to go down a size in trousers!”

Brian Packer, who lost an incredible 12.5kg over the course of the programme, commented: “Fit Robins has really helped me in my weight loss and fitness journey. It’s great that the team I love has put so much time and effort into helping its fans improve their health.

"The coaching team have been superb, making exercise fun through sporting activities and giving us the knowledge to make better food and lifestyle decisions.

"I’ve lost almost 10% of my weight over the course of the programme and feel much more healthy and energetic as a result. It has been great to meet fellow fans and share the journey with them, giving and receiving support from the whole group."

Bristol City Robins Foundation FIT Robins

FIT Robins is a completely free health and wellbeing initiative which aims to promote healthy living and help City fans lose weight. The programme achieves this by helping participants:

  • Improve their eating habits by reducing portion sizes and swapping fatty and sugary foods for fruit, vegetables and high fibre foods
  • Achieve at least 45 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity on most days of the week. They receive weekly exercise sessions at their club for 12 weeks, and follow a personal pedometer-based walking programme that encourages them to fit physical activity into their daily lives
  • Use tried-and-tested behaviour change techniques to become more active and improve their diet. These include regular self-monitoring of their weight and pedometer step counts and setting SMART goals to make changes that can be sustained long term.

Due to health and wellbeing concerns connected to COVID-19 the sessions have moved to digital platforms and will continue to run via these platforms until further notice.

The next FIT Robins programme will be a female only cohort and will commence on April 30th.
