Robins blunted by Blades

City Under-23s suffered a 4-0 defeat at Sheffield United in their first Professional Development League reverse of the season.

Having won their opening three leagues fixtures, City arrived full of confidence but faced a tough challenge against the Blades.

The hosts created several chances during the opening 20 minutes, with Daniel Jebbison going close twice, while George Broadbent volleyed an effort wide from the edge of the box.

Sam Pearson (pictured) had a chance for the Robins but his shot was saved by Jordan Amissah before they were reduced to 10 men when captain Opi Edwards was shown a straight red 10 minutes before half-time for a foul on Zak Brunt.

It gave the Blades the motivation they needed to take control of the game and Daniel Jebbison headed home Broadbent's cross from the right for the lead.

The Blades doubled their advantage when Nickseon Gomis stormed into the box and fired a powerful effort which beat Harvey Wiles-Richards via a small deflection to make it 2-0.

Brunt curled an effort into the far corner from inside the box to make it 3-0, with Jebbison going on to grab his second to seal the game.

City: Harvey Wiles-Richards, Barney Soady, Vince Harper (N Williams 84), Ryley Towler, Tom Harrison, Opi Edwards (capt), Joe Porton (Kadji 64), Josh Owers, Sam Bell, Sam Pearson, Zak Smith. Unused: James Walker, Prince Henry.

Sheffield United: Amissah, Seriki (Maguire 70), Boyes (Cappello 70), Gordon, Lopata, Gomis, Broadbent, Neal, Jebbison, Ndiaye, Brunt. Unused: Chapman, Belehouan, Viggars.
