City Under-23s came from a goal behind to secure a pre-season victory over Weston-super-Mare this afternoon.
The hosts broke the deadlock as early as the 11th minute when a Trialist cut inside from the left channel and his weak strike took a wicked deflection to wrong-foot the unfortunate Alhaji Sesay.
The lead didn’t last long, however, as the referee showed no hesitation in awarding Luke Williams’ side a penalty three minutes later.
Up stepped Connor Lemonheigh-Evans and the attacker kept his cool to dispatch the resultant spot-kick beyond the outstretched Luke Purnell.
With momentum in their stride, the young Robins continued to push forward and their pressure was rewarded in the 20th minute.
Weston failed to clear their lines and Saikou Janneh was well-positioned inside the area to covert an inviting cross with a powerful header.
The second period was one with few clear-cut opportunities for either team.
The best chance fell to the Seagulls Trialist, but the frontman was unable to secure his second goal of the afternoon, as his low powered strike was straight at City’s shot-stopper.
