City Under-23s scored either side of half-time to beat their Portsmouth counterparts in the Central League Cup.
Kel Akpobire fired Luke Williams’ side in front just before half-time before Connor Lemonheigh-Evans’ successful spot-kick doubled their advantage soon after the restart.
It means the development squad have now extended their unbeaten run to six matches.
City were the better side from the off, with Lemonheigh-Evans curling a free kick narrowly wide and Jake Andrews firing over from James Morton’s through pass.
Tom Richards was the next to take aim, sending a shot rising over the crossbar from 18 yards.
City finally broke the deadlock four minutes before the interval as Aden Baldwin saw a header from Jake Andrews’ free kick saved by the home keeper. Akpobire was in the right place to pounce on the rebound and fire home.
It was two straight after the restart as Lemonheigh-Evans was sent tumbling in the penalty area. The young Welsh forward dusted himself off to confidently dispatch the result spot-kick.
Max O’Leary made a fine save to keep out a free kick late on, but Williams’ team were more than deserving of their victory on the South Coast.
City Under-23s: O'Leary, Parsons, Baldwin, Plavotic (Harvey Smith), Nurse, Andrews, Morton, Richards, Akpobire, Lemonheigh-Evans, Holden. Subs not used: Sainsbury, A.Harper, Ali.
