Bristol City Women Development Squad suffered a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Oxford United at the weekend.
First team squad members Kylie Nolan and Poppy Wilson got some valuable game time as both players gradually return from long-term injuries.
The fixture at Oxford Academy was the first game back after the Christmas break in the WSL Development League South.
The hosts scored two goals in quick succession, before Amy Goddard struck for the Vixens on 17 minutes.
New signing Nolan levelled proceedings on 22 minutes with a neat finish after surging into the box.
City Women came firing out of the blocks in the second-half, on 55 minutes top goal scorer Chloe Gilroy cut in from the right wing and her 25-yard effort flew into the top corner.
Unfortunately, the Vixens couldn't hold on as the hosts scored two more goals in the final ten minutes of the game.
The result leaves Bristol City Women three points adrift of Arsenal at the top of the table, with Brighton away up next this Sunday.
Season Tickets for the 2022/23 campaign are selling at a record pace, with more than 9,000 supporters already committed.
