Report: Millwall Under-23s 1-1 Bristol City Under-23s

Callum Wood was on the scoresheet as City and Millwall Under-23s shared the spoils in their Professional Development League clash at Calmont Road.

Wood headed in from a Sam Pearson corner before Seb Drozd levelled late to snatch a point for the hosts.

THE BACKGROUND

The young Robins were hoping to build some momentum in the PDL after an impressive 3-0 victory away at Charlton Athletic at the start of November.

WHAT HAPPENED

City went into halftime unlucky not to be ahead after creating several opportunities.

It started when Tommy Conway, wearing the armband for this match, struck the post on the quarter-of-an-hour mark.

Then, after Pearson put a free-kick just over the bar, Conway tried his luck again only to see his effort from a corner go just over.

Millwall came the game after the break and it took a goal-line clearance from Barney Soady to keep them out just after the hour while Harvey Wiles-Richards pulled off several good saves.

The young Robins finally took the lead when Wood drove a header home after Pearson’s corner.

However, their lead did not last long and Drozd restored parity for the hosts with six minutes left.

Louis Britton was denied by the keeper one-on-one, while Pearson continued to be in the thick of the action until the end and was also thwarted by the home goalkeeper.

THE TEAM

Wiles-Richards (gk); Taylor, Wood, Soady; Pearson, Backwell, Sage, Salmon, Janneh; Conway (c), Britton. Subs unused: Brown, Richards, Casagrande

UP NEXT

The young Robins are next in action against Ipswich at the Robins High Performance Centre on Tuesday, December 14th (1pm) after the away match against Colchester United on Monday, December 6th was postponed.
