Ten-man City Under-23s were put to sword by Premier League giants Liverpool in the Premier League Cup on Sunday.
One-cap England international Danny Ings bagged four goals, putting his lengthy battle with injury behind him.
Ings also provided two assists on the day, with goals from Yan Dhanda, Conor Masterson and Harry Wilson completing the rout.
For City, Aden Baldwin was sent off early in the second half for a second bookable offence.
Ings scored in the first 60 seconds and had bagged a hat-trick by the 21st minute.
Just after the half hour Ings turned provider for Dhanda to make it 4-0 and that's how it remained until the interval.
Ings added his fourth and Liverpool's fifth soon after the restart, before Baldwin was ordered from the field.
The hosts, who also gave 90 minutes to defender Jon Flanagan, put the seal on the win late on thanks to strikes from Materson and Wilson.
City Under-23s: O'Leary, Parsons, Baldwin, Plavotic, Pring, Andrews (Akpobire), Lemonheigh-Evans, Bakinson, Nurse, Holden, Garita (Semenyo).
