City Under-18s were hit by a second-half salvo away at Hull City as they went down 3-1 in the Professional Development League.
Ricardo Rees’ first-half goal set City on their way, but the match was turned on its head after the interval, with two goals in a minute.
Then, as City pressed late on for an equaliser, they were caught with a sucker punch at the death.
Rees took advantage of some smart play for Harrison Reeves on 21 minutes to round Hull’s keeper and open the scoring.
Rees and Reeves both had further opportunities in a first period dominated by the visitors in Humberside, but it remained 1-0 at the break.
Hull scored five minutes after the restart and again within 60 seconds to completely change the course of the match.
George Nurse fired wide and Opi Edwards also went close as Trevor Challis’ side pushed for an equaliser, but they were hit on the counter with time ticking away as Hull snatched a third goal.
City Under-18s: Sesay, Turner-Williams, Ali, Harry Smith, Harvey Smith, Nurse (Mortimore), Richards, Reeves, Edwards, Rees (Allen), Harper (Akpobire).
