📝 Report: Huddersfield Town 2-0 Bristol City

City ended the season with a defeat to Huddersfield Town at the John Smith's Stadium courtesy of two first-half goals.

First-half scores from Harry Toffolo and Danny Ward gave the Terriers all three points in the final Sky Bet Championship game of the season.

George Tanner was introduced as a second-half substitute, making his first appearance for the Robins since the 30th of December against Queens Park Rangers after being sidelined through injury.

🧐 BACKGROUND

Nigel Pearson made one change for City’s final game of the season with Han-Noah Massengo coming into the side in place of Joe Williams, who has a stiff Achilles heel and was rested as a precaution.

Pearson’s side were looking to make it three wins on the bounce following last week's 5-0 against Hull City at Ashton Gate.

✍️ WHAT HAPPENED?

The hosts had the first chance of the game when Duane Holmes crossed the ball into the box from the right towards Ward but the forward couldn't direct it towards goal.

Minutes later, the Terriers put another ball into the box, this time from the left through Toffolo, but Cundy was there to head the ball out for a corner which came to nothing for the home side.

The Robins had their first chance of the game in the 12th minute when Antoine Semenyo laid the ball off to Chris Martin, who then saw his shot blocked by the Town defence and our for a corner.

From the resulting corner, Semenyo tried his luck from a tight angle at the back post but his attempt was well saved by Jamal Blackman in the Huddersfield net.

Jon Russell then had shot from outside of the box but Matty James was on had to make the block and put the ball out for a corner which the hosts couldn't capitalise on.

Just before the half-hour mark Danel Sinani burst into the box but yet again James was there to make the block and hault the attack.

Toffolo put the hosts ahead in the 33rd minute after manoeuvring his way into the box and calmly slotting the ball past Dan Bentley.

Straight from the kick-off the Robins looked close to levelling the scores but Martin's shot was well saved at his near post by Blackman.

Nigel Pearson's side earned themsleves a free-kick on the left after Massengo was brought down by Pipa but Klose couldn't find the target from James' lofted ball into the box.

Bentley pulled off a great save to stop the Terriers increasing their lead when Pipa played the ball into the box towards Holmes but City's No.1 was there to tip the his shot over the bar.

Huddersfield doubled there lead moments before half-time when Holmes' ball into the box from the right found Ward who then got his toe on it and the ball crossed the line.

HALF-TIME

Sinani was played through on goal in the opening stages of the second half but Bentley got down low to make the save.

Timm Klose came close to getting on the scoresheet but his volley from a Semenyo long-throw was wide of the target.

Alex Scott found his way into the box after some quick footwork however the Terriers were there to stop the 18-year-old from getting a shot off.

Pipa tried his luck from the outside of the box after driving towards goal from the left but his effort was well wide of the post.

Minutes later Ward almost made it 3-0 to the hosts when he drove into the box from the right and unleashed his effort but once again Bentley was there to make the stop.

Semenyo played the ball to Scott on the edge of the box but the midfielder couldn't guide his effort towards goal.

Martin attempted an effort from range with minutes until the final whistle but his powerful shot went over the bar.
