Report: Exeter City U23s 1-0 Bristol City U23s

City Under-23s suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at Exeter City in the Central Cup.

The development group team included five Under-18s – Tom Richards, George Nurse, Harvey Smith, Opi Edwards and Harrison Reeves – as Jamie McAllister gave a rest to some of his players involved in Monday’s 1-1 draw with Barnsley at SGS.

The winning goal came in the first half from a 25-yard free kick, curled around the wall and beyond Jojo Wollacott.

City’s best chances all came from crosses produced by George Nurse, but to no avail.

McAllister said: “It was great to see five of our Under-18s take the step up and it will provide them with excellent experience for their futures.

“The winning goal disappointed me because the wall should have been better.

“I thought we looked a bit leggy in the second half but we still had chances to get something from the game."

City Under-23s return to action when they travel to Leeds United on Monday (7pm).

City Under-23s: Wollacott, Harris, Baldwin, Harvey Smith, Pring, Moss, Reeves, Richards, Nurse, Omofe, McCoulsky. Subs: Challis, Edwards, Difford, Easterbrook.
