📝 Report: Derby County 1-3 Bristol City

Andi Weimann’s 20th goal of the season, a strike from Antoine Semenyo and a Timm Klose header secured back-to-back away wins for the Robins.

Weimann opened the scoring with his 10th-minute goal and, by the time the relentless Semenyo smashed in a left-footed strike in the 33rd minute, the Robins were on their way to three points to add to their Good Friday win at Stoke City.

Craig Forsyth pulled a goal back for the relegated Rams before Klose scored his first goal for City when he steered Matty James’ free-kick beyond Ryan Allsop with a deft header.

It was a day of firsts with Duncan Idehen making his debut as City sent 1,000 fans home happy from the penultimate road trip of the season.

🧐 BACKGROUND

Manager Nigel Pearson made two changes from the side that drew 1-1 with Sheffield United.

Joe Williams replaced Han-Noah Massengo, while Ayman Benarous started in place of Jay Dasilva, who was still recovering from the ankle injury sustained against the Blades.

✍️ WHAT HAPPENED?

City started brightly with Semenyo cutting in from the left and shooting but his strike was blocked.

That set the tone for City and when Semenyo found Chris Martin on the halfway line he slipped Weimann through, it was inevitable that the striker would coolly slot past Ryan Allsop.

City were forced into a change when Alex Scott suffered a blow to the face from an arm as he tried to connect with Benarous’ cross.

Off came Scott and Sam Bell was subsequently pressed into action as right wing-back and was in the thick of the action as City kept the pressure on.

Derby had chances themselves with Bartosz Cybuklski volleying over and before heading over the bar from close range.

In between, the Robins had gone two ahead when Semenyo dispossessed Richard Stearman, beating the defender with a step-over before shooting low into the far corner past Allsop.

The late first-half chances fell to Derby with Dan Bentley turning away Morrison’s long-range shot and Rob Atkinson denying the striker with a crucial tackle.

HALF-TIME

Atkinson made another important intervention after the break as the Rams pressed to get back into the game.

And they duly did in the 61st minute when Craig Forsyth beat Bell to Malcolm Ebiowei’s cross to head in.

City almost grabbed a third when Semenyo’s shot was saved by Allsop and Weimann’s back-heel flick just went wide.

The third came in the 79th minute when replacement Han-Noah Massengo won a free-kick just inside the Rams' half and Matty James’ ball found Klose, who steered the ball into the top corner to leave City with a two-goal lead they were able to hold on to and see out the game.
