Two quick-fire second half goals from Zac Smith and Freddie Hinds helped City to a 2-0 win over bottom-of-the-table Colchester United in the Professional Development League at the Jobserve Community Stadium.
Hinds grabbed an assist when his cutback picked out Smith, who curled the ball around the U’s goalkeeper in the 50th minute.
Just four minutes later Hinds got himself on the scoresheet. The forward had missed a first-half penalty but made up for the miss by slotting the ball into the bottom corner.
Louis Britton could have added a third but saw a shot ping back off the post, while the hosts were reduced to ten men when Miquel Scarlett was shown a red card for reacting against Vince Harper.
City: Wiles-Richards, Edwards, Webb, Owens, H Smith, Jamie Taylor, Harper, Z Smith (James Taylor), Britton (Benarous 79), Hinds, Rees. Subs: Robertson, C Pearson.
