Ricardo Rees netted after 20 minutes to open the scores after diverting Chris Turner-Williams’ cross, with Sam Bell in the right place at the right time to fire the U23s into a 2-0 lead before half-time.
The young Lions pulled a goal back on the hour mark with a dubious penalty, which was conceded by Ryley Towler.
City’s own appeals for a penalty were dismissed, when Turner-Williams went down in the box through a mistimed challenge but the referee ended up booking the youngster for simulation.
However, City defended their one-goal lead to record their fourth home win in a row.
City v Millwall: Buse, Turner-Williams, Soady, Burford, Ali, Richards (C) (Spark 72), Pearson, Bell, Rees, Towler, J Taylor (Gould, 46). Subs: C Pearson, Robertson.
