📝 Report: Bristol City Under-23s 1-2 Charlton Athletic Under-23s

The young Robins were beaten 2-1 by Charlton Athletic at the Robins High Performance Centre despite a late fight back.

Seb Palmer-Houlden gave City hope of a comeback with an 87th-minute goal but they were unable to find an equaliser after the Addicks had scored either side of half-time.

THE BACKGROUND

City Under-23s were looking to respond with a win following a 2-2 draw with Swansea City last Monday.

WHAT HAPPENED

The visitors were the first to go close when Euan Williams struck the base of the post with a shot from outside the box. Moments later he called Will Buse into action but the City ‘keeper got two strong hands to the shot.

Jamie Knight-Lebel had the young Robins’ first chance of the match, striking the ball cleanly but unfortunately his shot fizzed narrowly wide of the post.

The Addicks took the lead after Daniel Kanu tapped home the rebound from Charlie Barker’s long-range shot.

Buse produced another good save when Ryan Viggars ran through on goal, spreading himself and making a fine block.

City had the Addicks defence scrambling when substitute Ollie Thomas picked out Palmer-Houlden, but some last-ditch efforts prevented an equaliser for the young Robins.

Buse came to the rescue again for City when he made an excellent double save; first smothering a close-range effort from Kanu, then springing up to reach and claim the follow up.

However, the visitors shortly doubled their advantage when Williams picked out Wassim Aouachria at the back post for a simple tap-in.

The young Robins pulled a goal back when Palmer-Houlden converted the rebound from Thomas’ shot to set up a comeback, but they unfortunately could not fashion a leveller.
