Diego De Girolamo scored a first-half brace as City Under-23s thrashed Coventry City 4-1 at Failand.
Alex Ball’s side dominated the encounter and never looked back after De Girolamo’s double.
Coventry responded with a penalty after the interval, before goals from Freddie Hinds and Zak Vyner gave the scoreline a fair one-sided look.
De Girolamo opened the scoring after 22 minutes, turning past two Coventry defenders before wrong-footing the keeper to find the bottom corner.
The former Sheffield United attacker made it two on the stroke of half-time from penalty spot, after being a spot of holding at a corner.
Coventry were awarded a spot-kick six minutes after the restart after George Dowling’s sliding challenge was adjudged to have been illegal. Alhaji Sesay made a strong save from the penalty, but the rebound was turned in.
Within seconds at the other end Hinds made it 3-1, dispatching a cross from the right high into the top corner.
Vyner registered a rare goal to complete the rout, slamming the ball in from close range after being picked out by Opi Edwards’ cross.
City Under-23s: Sesay; Vyner, Harvey Smith, Kelly, Matthews; Edwards, Morrell, Dowling (Harper 86), Jonny Smith; De Girolamo (Morton 78), Hinds (Akpobire 78).
