Report: Bristol City U23s 3-1 Stoke City U23s

City Under-23s enjoyed a perfect start to their Premier League Cup campaign, beating Stoke City 3-1 in Weston.

Tyrone Bakinson, Rory Holden and Arnold Garita all got on the scoresheet to earn three points for Luke Williams’ side.

It was Bakinson who got the ball rolling in the 38th minute, latching on to a through ball from Jake Andrews before rounding the Stoke keeper to slot into an empty net.

Then, on the stroke of half-time, Holden produced a poacher’s finish to double the advantage. Garita challenged the visiting goalkeeper and as the ball ran loose, the Northern Irishman – signed from Derry on deadline day – slotted in from ten yards.

Things got even better the other side of the break, with Bakinson’s cross picking out Garita in the box to head in number three.

Daniel Jarvis pulled a goal back for Stoke on 55 minutes, but it proved little more than a consolation, as City held out for three points.

City must wait until November for their second group fixture; a mouth-watering trip to Liverpool.

City Under-23s: Sesay, Parsons, Harvey Smith, Plavotic, Nurse (Richards 90), Morton (Edwards 76), A.Harper, Holden, Bakinson, Andrews, Garita. Subs not used: Sainsbury, Bell, Towler.
