Report: Bristol City U23s 3-0 Cardiff City U23s

A Tom Richards brace and an Hakeeb Adelakun free kick fired Luke Williams’ side to a 3-0 win in the Severnside Derby.

While Cardiff City Under-23s hit the post early on, City had chances through Ricardo Rees and Opi Edwards; notably Rees’ attempted overhead kick but the goalbound effort was blocked.

The sides entered half-time goalless but just ten minutes after the restart, City were ahead. Edwards beat a number of defenders, before cutting the ball back to Richards who coolly finished beyond the goalkeeper.

Sam Pearson went close to doubling City’s advantage when his great piece of skill took him away from his marker, but when his shot came, Burwood denied him.

But there was nothing he could do to keep out Adelakun’s well-struck free kick which gave City a 2-0 lead with only 13 minutes remaining.

And they made sure of the result in added time, when Richard’s cool backheel had the beating of the Bluebirds keeper, following Vince Harper’s delivery.
