City Under-18s were narrowly beaten in the Severnside derby with Cardiff City on Friday night.
The Bluebirds prevailed at Clevedon Town’s Hand Stadium by two goals to one in the Professional Development League.
The opening goal arrived after just 12 minutes as a swift breakaway saw a Cardiff attacker round keeper Denis Begovic to score.
Vince Harper almost equalised with a fizzing volley which just flashed wide of the post.
Cardiff doubled their advantage on the hour with a powerful finish from close range, leaving Trevor Challis’ side with an uphill battle from there on in.
But Marcus Day gave the home team some hope, converting on the rebound after Cameron Allen’s shot had only been parried out.
Allen then had a chance to snatch a point at the death, but in a one-on-one situation, Cardiff’s keeper made a smart stop.
City Under-18s: Begovic, Turner-Williams, Ali, Turner, Spark, Rees, Z.Smith, Harry Smith, V.Harper, Day (Bell), Allen.
