Bobby Reid admits his new deal comes just days after his best performance of the season.
The midfielder scored and won a penalty in the 4-1 thrashing of Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, a result which takes Bristol City to the brink of Sky Bet Championship survival.
Reid also won the man of the match award for the display, which preceded today’s announcement of his one-year contract extension.
“I’d say it was probably my best display of the season,” Reid said to bcfc.co.uk in the wake of the Ashton Gate success.
“I’ve played well in other games, but to score and get an assist as well, I really enjoyed it. We all played well, as a team, making lots of angles for each other.
“We’ve set a benchmark with a performance like that. It shows we are able to compete in this league.”
His first-half strike brought up his third goal in a City shirt, and goalscoring is an area of Reid’s game that the youngster has been trying to improve.
“I’ve been speaking with the gaffer about making those runs into the penalty area and it was a great ball in from Luke,” he added.
“I just thought ‘hit the target and make the keeper work’. Thankfully it went straight in the top corner and it was a great feeling.
“I’m thoroughly enjoying working with the gaffer again and to get the new deal, it’s great. I just want to keep improving every day, whether that’s in training or in games.”
