All of the key info on Bristol City's opponents can be found below.
SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY
Wednesday prepared for the new Sky Bet Championship with six pre-season matches. A draw with Alfreton Town kicked off proceedings before a 1-0 win over Ilkeston. After failing to overcome York City, the Owls travelled to Portugal to face SC Braga, narrowly losing to the Europa League qualifiers. Carlos Carvalhal’s side were defeated by Scunthorpe United back in England, but ended their pre-season with an empathic win over St Mirren. Wednesday have made 11 signings prior to the start of the season.
MANAGER
Carlos Carvalhal – Portguese manager who has been in charge of 15 clubs since 1998. Tomorrow’s match will be the 49-year-old’s first as Wednesday head coach following three seasons out of football. Carvalhal spent three spells at City’s pre-season opponents SC Braga in a 15-year playing career spanning across seven teams.
STAR MAN
Marco Matias – Former Portugal under-21 striker who signed from Nacional for an undisclosed fee in July. The 26-year-old scored 20 goals in 26 appearances in the Portuguese top flight last season and has signed a four-year deal at Hillsborough. Matias started his career at Sporting Lisbon and also played for Guimaraes in the 2013-14 Europa League.
OFFICIALS
James Adcock is the man in the middle on Saturday. Gary Hilton and Kevin Mattocks will be his assistants. Rob Lewis is the fourth official.
