Burton Albion v Bristol City
Pirelli Stadium
Sky Bet Championship
Saturday, August 13th (3pm)
Bristol City head to Burton Albion for the first time in their history, looking for their third win in a row.
BURTON ALBION
Burton have enjoyed back-to-back promotions and are still relatively new to the English Football League. The Brewers reached the Sky Bet Championship for the first time in their history after securing automatic promotion from League One last year. They have signed experienced heads in Kyle McFadzean and Lloyd Dyer, and have kept key players such as Lucas Akins. Burton opened the season with a 4-3 loss to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. Goals may not be hard to come by but they will need to become more organised at the back if they are to extend their stay in the second tier.
MANAGER
Nigel Clough - Former Nottingham Forest and Liverpool man who made over 600 appearances throughout his 24-year playing career. Clough became player-manager of Burton in 1998 and spent 11 years at the club, and left for Derby County in January 2009 with the club in pole position for a place in the EFL for the first time. Four years with the Rams ended with a derby defeat to Forest and Sheffield United secured his signature a couple of months later. Clough couldn’t guide the Blades to promotion and returned to Burton following Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s departure to QPR.
OFFICIALS
David Coote is the man in the middle. He will be assisted by Nigel Lugg and Tony Peart. David Plowright is the fourth official.
