Bristol City Women head coach, Willie Kirk previews his side's game against Everton Ladies on Saturday, August 27th (KO 6pm).
Willie Kirk believes beating Everton Ladies this Saturday (6pm kick-off) will prove significant in his side’s promotion push.
City Women lie in the second of the automatic promotion place, five points ahead of the Toffees having played a game more.
The Vixens have five league matches remaining in order to achieve promotion back to the top flight at the first time of asking, and Kirk feels playing at Stoke Gifford Stadium gives his side a ‘huge advantage’.
“There is a lot of pressure on Everton,” he said.
“We have had a great home form which is a huge advantage. They’ll be scared coming here.
"A defeat for either club would knock their chances of promotion but a loss for them would be very costly.
"If we can inflict that defeat on them, then it will not only hamper their chances but also put us in a great position.
He added: "I think that’s what the league wanted in the start, a race for promotion with four or five games to go.
"It will make for a very exciting and nervous finish to the season.”
Saturday’s match ends City’s three-week break from league action, which they entered on the back of a five-match unbeaten run.
Kirk was worried about his team losing their momentum due to the time off, but now considers it beneficial.
“At first, we were frustrated with the break as we had built up consistency and had some great results,” he said.
“Looking back, it’s allowed us to give the right amount of rehab to some of our players who have had knocks.”
