Lee Tomlin says his first taste of Premier League football wasn’t enough – and is now determined for more with Bristol City.
The man who scored six times in 18 appearances to help lift City up the Sky Bet Championship table is back, having signed a three-year contract to complete an undisclosed fee switch from AFC Bournemouth.
It was with the Cherries that Tomlin made his six appearances in the Premier League last season. But that clearly isn’t enough for the maverick frontman.
“I want to get back to the Premier League,” said Tomlin, when asked for his ambitions in the wake of signing for City in the Championship.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to play there – it’s what I feel I was born for.
“I’ve played in the top division but it wasn’t enough for me; I only lived it for four or five months.”
He continued in his Bristol City Player HD exclusive interview: “The fact I’ve come here doesn’t mean I’ve taken a step back or that my career is finished.
“I want to kick on again and I’ll do that until the day I retire. Everything happens for a reason.”
Since starring for City during the second half of last season, Tomlin has been inundated with messages from supporters of the Ashton Gate club through his Twitter account.
City’s pursuit of the Bournemouth forward has dominated the column inches, becoming the saga of the summer, and the phrase “Announce Tomlin” has been common place in messages to the club’s official Twitter account, @bcfctweets.
With the deal now complete, Tomlin had a message for the supporters who have taken him to their heart.
“Please carry on supporting us, not just me but the whole team, like you did when I was here last season,” he said.
“There will always be ups and downs in a season but we’ll stick together throughout and that’s what makes us such an unbelievable club.”
Tomlin’s first game back in a City shirt is set to be at Hengrove Athletic this Sunday (kick-off 2pm), with tickets still available by clicking here.
