Premier League Charitable Fund Awards: Primary Stars

To mark the ten-year anniversary of the Premier League Charitable Fund, all this week the Robins Foundation are nominating stand out individuals who have taken part in Premier League funded programmes.

First up in our celebration of Premier League Charitable Funded programmes is Premier League Primary Stars.

Participant winner: “Game Changers”

Caleb, Tegan, Ellis, Jamie-Leigh, Marnie and Charlie - otherwise known as “Game Changers” - are a group of six inspirational young people who through the Robins Foundation’s delivery of the Premier League Primary Stars programme, have worked to make a difference in their local community.

Since the group’s conception back in October 2019, the youngsters have worked with staff to identify and address the important issue of bullying in local schools.

The group of young people have inspired those around them and go to show that you can be the change you want to see in the world.

Bristol City Robins Foundation Premier League Primary Stars Lead Coach, James Howiantz, commented: “Working with these extraordinary young people has been an absolute pleasure and seeing them develop as people has been a real joy.

"We have seen them grow in confidence in a short space of time, and they now feel comfortable to showcase their ideas and skills. They have shown they can be creative, inspirational and caring members of the community and use their own minds to help the lives of others.

"Well done Game Changers."

Facilitator winner: Ben Roberts

Ben is the regional PE Co-ordinator for E-ACT in the South West area and is an inspiration to young people across Bristol.

From putting together a committed and talented team of sports coaches, to actively delivering PE lessons, PSHE sessions and extra maths and English for children most in need of support, Ben’s commitment and passion for what he does is clear to see.

Leading by example, Ben works to motivate his team and ensure the highest quality of delivery is provided to all.

Ben continuously goes above and beyond the call of duty to help young people across the South West and demonstrated this throughout the lockdown period when he volunteered to assist the Robins Foundation in their delivery of more than 50,000 free meals to vulnerable families across our community.

Whilst delivering the meals Ben would take the time to interact with the young people – many of whom were struggling with the implications of isolating from their peers and friends – providing them with both emotional support and to keep them motivated with their home schooling.

“It is clear that Ben has a passion for providing an active and healthy lifestyle to all within the schools he works.” Commented Premier League Primary Stars Lead Coach, James Howiantz.

“He encourages all school staff to promote the physical and mental benefits of sport and exercise and is constantly looking to create clubs and teams that will give all pupils a chance to get engaged.”
