Bristol City goalkeeper Frank Fielding feels the squad will reap the benefits of a two-week pre-season tour like as they did 12 months ago.
City spent a fortnight in South Africa and Botswana last summer, something considered a major factor behind the 2014/15 double-winning campaign.
Portugal is the destination for Steve Cotterill’s men ahead of the new Sky Bet Championship season, and City’s stopper is confident it will be another massive success.
“It’s going to be good,” he told Bristol City Player HD. “You know how much we came on last year when we went to Africa for two weeks.”
City will test themselves against SC Farense and Europa League qualifiers Braga whilst on tour.
A year ago it was Africa’s winter season climate for City’s players, but this time around the summer heat of southern Portugal awaits, with temperatures reaching around 35 degrees.
Fielding concedes the heat will be tough to train and play in, but will aid the fitness of the players.
He said: “Thinking back the temperature in South Africa and Botswana was perfect for us to train in.
“I’ve been to Portugal this summer on holiday and I know how warm it is, but we’re looking forward to it.
“It’ll be a good two weeks of training and a couple of good games as well.”
