Players explore new training facility

A selection of first-team players have joined the club’s backroom staff in a tour of the new state-of-the-art training ground.

While viewing the progress so far, those in attendance were updated on the next stage of development and were given the opportunity to pen their signature on the steel pillars.

“It’s been really good visiting the facility,” said Callum O’Dowda. “To go in, be shown around, see the floorplans and see where everything is going to be is really exciting. I remember when I first signed there were talks about this new training ground so to see it underway now and moving towards completion is a great sight.

“I think it puts a statement out there for where Bristol City is, and where the club wants to be - it’s a big statement. The ambition is to get into the Premier League and combining this facility with the stadium and staff we have, we have the foundations to get there.”

Located next to the current pitches, the site will bring together the club’s Academy and senior team for the first time and will include a floodlit showpitch, capable of hosting the club’s Under-18 and Under-23 matches, two other full-size pitches and two further training areas.

The facility will also encompass a gym, changing rooms, medical, rehabilitation and performance facilities and office space, as well as education and welfare facilities for City’s young players.

Zak Vyner added: “The facilities are amazing – it will be brilliant when we can move in. To have all the players and staff together at one base will prove beneficial too. For the Academy players to look up to the first team boys and see them on a day to day basis and see where they can reach will be really good for them and will hopefully help inspire them to push on and help develop the next lot of Academy graduates.”

With a completion date of Spring 2021 the training ground is constructed by locally-based Beard Construction.
