✍️ Player-coach role for King

Andy King has signed a new one-year deal that sees him take up a player-coach role with the Robins.

The midfielder brings a wealth of playing experience to the role and the squad has been benefitting from his knowledge during his time in BS3.

King helped Leicester City win League One, Championship and top-flight titles between 2009-2016, making him the only player to win the top three divisions with the same club in the Premier League era, whilst also helping the Foxes compete in the UEFA Champions League.

He said “I’m absolutely delighted to extend my time at the club. Everyone knows Bristol City means a lot to me with my family connections and I can’t wait to hopefully help the club have a positive season.

“This is a slightly different role but playing a part on the pitch is something I still very firmly believe I can do and is what I’ve been working so hard towards this pre-season with the lads.

“The opportunity to help in a coaching capacity is also great and I’m keen to learn as it’s certainly something I see myself doing in the future. I hope that what I’ve learned so far, and from my experiences as a player, will be really useful to help the good young players we have.

“The squad is heading in the right direction, pre-season is going well and I’m really excited for what’s to come.”

King started out in Chelsea’s Academy system and then moved to Leicester City as a teenager, progressing through the youth ranks before making his first-team debut in 2007.

The midfielder made 15 appearances for City in the last campaign, scoring in his first away game against Middlesbrough.
