Pearson looking for performance consistency

Nigel Pearson wants to see consistency on the pitch as his side head into their midweek Bournemouth test off the back of two wins.

They battled back to beat Swansea City 3-1 on Saturday in Pearson’s first official game in charge with a performance that led to the new Robins boss earning the title of WhoScored’s Manager of the Week.

Now he prepares for his first game at Ashton Gate when City host Jonathan Woodgate’s Bournemouth.

Pearson told Robins TV: “It’s always nice to win of course but it was important we built on the performance of Middlesbrough and one of the most important things for us to is to get a consistency in performances…it was tough for us [on Saturday] because of Swansea’s dominance in the first half.”

But City managed to find a way to win with an impressive second-half showing in South Wales and Pearson is encouraged by the players’ “positive mentality.”

He said: “I think the players are playing with a positive mentality at the moment but of course we have to keep things in perspective and make sure our preparation for this game is thorough again and we go out and do what we’ve talked about doing. If we do that, I have no complaints. There will be setbacks, but the players are thinking positively and that’s good.”

Morale is a key component and that is helped in part by positive results. It was evident by the team huddle following the win at Swansea, which Pearson explained.

“It felt right to do it on the day because it had been such a tough game. Everyone played their part, and everyone influences the atmosphere by being positive. To win two games in a week is very positive.

Now he looks to the visit of the Cherries who present “lots of quality” though both teams will be wary of each other’s threats.

He said: “It’s such an interesting league. There are lots of styles of play, the games are relentless and there’s little time to worry.

“My philosophy is about concentrating on ourselves, being prepared for our opponents but we’ll win games if our level of performance is consistent. It will be a tough one but I’m looking forward to it.”

City's game will be live on Robins TV with a 7.15pm build-up.
