Two set-piece goals cost City all three points which left Nigel Pearson feeling frustrated after a 2-1 defeat at Kenilworth Road.
City went into the break 1-0 down after Tom Lockyer opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, despite the Robins having the lion's share of possession.
Andreas Weimann was on hand to equalise on the 56th minute after netting his 14th of the season when Antoine Semenyo played him through on goal.
Despite City's best efforts they were to leave Kenilworth Road empty handed as the Hatters' top scorer Elijah Adebayo bagged the winner with 20 minutes left to play
Speaking to Robins TV, Pearson said: “Conceding from set plays is something that is stifling our possibilities of making progress in the league.
"It's a game we could've won had we have been as disciplined as we needed to be at both ends, but I can't expect us to get three goals to get a win. We have to score two goals to get a point at the minute and it's a reoccurring problem for us.
"We scored a good equaliser, got back into the game and looked strong but then we conceded another really poor goal, which is draining the players.
"The first half performance - in terms of taking the game to our opponents and some of the football we played - was really good but it remains very frustrating."
City travel to the Deepdale Stadium as they take on Preston in their SkyBet Championship fixture with the Lilywhites on Saturday, January 29th (3pm).
The Robins' next home game sees Reading make the visit to Ashton Gate in their SkyBet Championship fixture with the Reds on Wednesday, February 9th (7:45pm).
