Jason Euell says Nigel Pearson’s pedigree and vision for the club was instrumental in him joining the Robins as First Team Coach.
Euell met the players this morning on their European pre-season training camp and will assist Manager Nigel Pearson, Assistant Manager Curtis Fleming and Goalkeeping Coach Pat Mountain in the build-up to the 2022/23 season.
Robins TV sat down with Euell, who said: “Once people were aware that I left Charlton all of a sudden there was an interest. But it wasn’t the case of just jumping back into a job after a matter of days, it was something that I felt was right.
“Knowing that Nigel was here, I played under him at Southampton, and I know Curtis as well, so it felt right. Knowing that Nigel made that initial reach out made me think that he can be someone who can help me and everyone else associated with the club moving forward.
“I’m fully behind the club’s ambitions. It’s a discussion I had with Richard Gould on Saturday (at the Robins High Performance Centre) with the new training centre being built…I sat there and said ‘this is Premier league ready’.
“Everything that has been happening over the last 12 months is gearing towards this season and, as we all know, anything is possible in the Championship. You can always be classed as favourites to be relegated or favourites to be a mid-table team but there’s nothing to say we won’t be able to push for promotion.”
A forward with Wimbledon, Charlton Athletic, Middlesbrough, Southampton and Blackpool, he has coached at Charlton Athletic, where he progressed from Academy to first team, and England Under-20s.
Ewell holds the UEFA Pro Licence qualification and is currently enrolled on the LMA Diploma in Football Management course.
Season Tickets for the 2022/23 season are now available with more than 13,000 already sold.
