Poppy Pattinson made her long-awaited return against Birmingham last weekend and the full-back has spoken of her delight to be back out on the pitch and challenging herself against the best.
The youngster had been sidelined for six months following a stress fracture to her ankle and she insists she is back stronger than ever, both physically and mentally.
“It’s great feeling to be back doing what I love, it’s been a long six month but I’ve been working hard in the gym, getting back to running and now I’m happy to be back and helping the team out the best I can.
“Any set back is difficult to take and there have been moments when I have been frustrated but it’s about getting through those moments. I’m a very determined person and I’d say I am now mentally stronger, overall I’m just glad to be back.
“We have a a great group here at the club. Being in the gym you’re not always with the girls, so being back out there and amongst the action is great.
“It’s been hard to watch from the sidelines throughout the start of the season, so it was a special moment to walk out against Birmingham last week and be in the starting eleven.
“I got through more minutes than I expected but that shows the amount of work I’ve been doing behind the scenes, the legs were quite sore after the game but overall I was just buzzing to be back out there playing football.
“We didn’t get the result we wanted against Birmingham, but we went some way to putting that right on Wednesday night against Charlton. We’ve got to take confidence from that performance and carry the momentum into West Ham this weekend to try and finish 2019 on a high.”
