Jamie Paterson says his spell on the sidelines was just the “wake-up call” he needed.
The winger has scored in each of City’s last three home games – all victories – as the team moved to within a point of Sky Bet Championship survival.
Before his recent purple patch, Paterson’s last start came in mid-January.
“Sometimes when you’re out of the team it’s a wake-up call for you,” Paterson told Bristol City Player HD.
“Of course it was frustrating not playing. You just have to work hard off the pitch and wait for your opportunity.
“I was ready for when the chance came along and thankfully I’ve been able to take it.
“To score three times and get two assists…I could only have dreamt of that a few weeks ago. It’s relief more than anything.”
He added: “I’ve managed to score goals throughout my career.
“It was a great ball from Packy (Marlon Pack), I managed to roll the defender and I only really had one option as the keeper rushed out at me.
“It felt good but we didn’t really celebrate, we just wanted to get the ball back and go for the winning goal.
“When Flinty (Aden Flint) headed the winner it was a great feeling. I couldn’t even run across the pitch to celebrate; I just stood there. It was certainly emotional.”
