Pack Aims To Add More Goals To His Game

After scoring his first Ashton Gate goal since the final day of the 2014/15 double-winning campaign, Marlon Pack is aiming to experience that feeling on a more regular basis in the future.

The goal earned City back-to-back victories and was played out under the lights for the first time in the newly-redeveloped stadium.

Latching on to Lee Tomlin’s through ball, the instrumental midfielder made no mistake in scoring the game’s only goal in the 59th minute, with a composed finish past Robert Green.

“It’s always good to be the match winner, especially for someone like me where it doesn’t come around too often,” the 25-year-old told Bristol City Player HD.

“I did a good piece of closing down, I won the ball back, and then Tommo (Tomlin) did what he does best as he laid the pass off just at the right time and I was cool enough to slot past Robert Green.

“I never tend to get forward that much and generally my goals are from outside the box, scuffed into the bottom corners, but that was a nice tidy finish.

“It was quite a natural finish. I get to do it a bit more in training than I do in matchdays. It was the first thing that came to my mind and you can’t really take time in that position - you have to do what comes first and luckily it beat the keeper.

“It’s a rarity for me to be in such an advanced position but it is something I want to add to my game because the more strings you add to our bow it is only going to help you as a player.”

Despite the close margins within the game, Pack believes victory – City’s first league win over Leeds United since 1979 – was warranted.

He added: “Leeds are a very good side and they play some good football. They’re a threat going forward, but I think based on chances created we were on top.

“They had a lot of possession but I felt we kept our shape well as we did against Fulham and it was only the one goal needed.

“Night games are always a good atmosphere, especially when you take the lead. “The fans got behind us, especially when we were defending, and that always helps.

“The stadium is brilliant, whether it’s an afternoon kick-off or night game. As long as we get that feel good factor (around Ashton Gate) it is going to be a great place to be.”
