Oxtoby seeks mature performance

City Women boss Tanya Oxtoby has her challenged her side to put in a mature performance when they travel to face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

The Australian also believes City Women can take confidence from last weekend’s victory over Durham as the Robins seek back to back victories.

“I think last weekend’s game was one that we would have previously not ground out a result from, so really pleased with the way in which we stuck with what we were trying to do even in tricky conditions, and hopefully that gives the girls some confidence, said Oxtoby.

“In our last game against Spurs we were in control of the game and we let them back in. Credit to them they took their chances but we need to be better, because games like that are the ones that are going to dictate whether or not we stay in the league.

“Really big test for us this weekend as we’re a little thin on the ground on terms of squad numbers with injuries and players that are unavailable, but we seem to have done really well at times away from home this season, so we can take confidence from that.

“We’re trying really hard to make sure that were concentrate on us and what we’re doing.

“We’ve said it before that we’ve got our target, we can’t worry about other results and what goes on around us, we need to be focused on us and our performance, and our performance comes back to our process points and us executing them for the full ninety minutes.

“We know we’re not going to be in control of the game the entire time and that’s about us being a little bit more mature and managing the momentum. I thought we did that brilliantly against Manchester United away, so we’ll be needing that again this weekend when we travel away to Spurs.”
