Oxtoby looking for a response

Robins boss Tanya Oxtoby previews this Sunday’s clash with Arsenal Women at Meadow Park (12:30pm).

City Women head to the capital off the back of two heavy defeats, but Oxtoby insists the camp remain in high spirits as they look to challenge themselves and improve on recent results.

“It’s been a tough November, we’ve got a fair few of the big clubs out the way now - one more to go - we’re in good spirits and keeping things in perspective.

“We’re working really hard and keeping focused on what we’re doing, at the end of the day we’ve got three really big games in the build up to Christmas in the league and that’s really important that we put in a strong performance in all of those.

“We sat down at the start of the week and we put it to the group, ‘Do you want to go out there and have a go at Arsenal or do  you want to sit in?’, from our perspective everyone in the group wants to challenge themselves.

“If we go out and try to do the right things, and it doesn’t quite go in our favour then so be it, at least we’re trying to do things that will stand us in good stead moving forward.

“We’ve not focused on the scorelines so much over the last week, more so on the performance and the process points and that’s how we evaluate our game. ‘How did we press from the front? Did we execute the game plan that was set out? In the areas that we wanted to limit their final third entries, did we do that?’

“They’re measurable areas that we can look at and build from, but also give us a clear indication of where we need to improve on.

“With the November we had coming up, those were always the areas we were going to look at and measure as it gives the players a key indication of where they have been good but also the areas they need to improve on more than others.

“We’re well aware of where we sit in terms of resources against the other sides, but looking at it a lot of the goals we have conceded they are preventable. We can’t give teams like we have faced opportunities for free, they’ll create enough on their own as it is and I think we gave away too many opportunities particularly in the game against Arsenal and in the final fifteen minutes against Man City, so we’re working hard to rectify those.”
