City’s Open Training Session proved a huge success, with more than 1,300 supporters descending on Ashton Gate to see the first team put through their paces.
In the final week of the school holidays, youngsters were rushing through the turnstiles when they opened at 4pm in readiness for the training session.
The players emerged shortly after 5pm to the usual matchday fanfare, before undergoing a light warm-up with Rhys Carr, the club’s head of fitness & conditioning.
After some close control keep-ball rondo drills, the players then embarked on small-sided football sessions – with the emphasis on goals.
Six youngsters were lucky enough to be picked out at the end by head coach Lee Johnson to take part with their heroes in another keep-ball session.
Then the players and staff walked the length of the Lansdown Stand, spending over an hour signing autographs and posing for pictures.
Five players on international duty were absent from the Open Training Session: Hordur Magnusson, Bailey Wright, Callum O’Dowda, Jonathan Leko and Lloyd Kelly.
