O'Dowda extends City stay

Callum O’Dowda has agreed a new three-year City contract with the option of a further 12 months.

The 24-year-old has reaffirmed his commitment to the Robins, whom he joined from Oxford United in 2016.

Bristol City Chief Executive Officer Mark Ashton said: “I am thrilled we have secured Callum’s talent for the next few years. He is such a hardworking and talented player and we know he can make a big impact on and off the pitch. I believe we will see Callum at the top of his game and that is something to really celebrate and look forward to.”

Now into his fourth season in BS3, O’Dowda has scored seven club goals – his most recent a magnificent solo goal against Norwich City in February – with nine assists and has been a regular member of the Republic of Ireland squad.

City Head Coach Lee Johnson commented: “Callum is an important member of the squad and it’s great news for his team-mates, staff and the supporters that he will be here for at least the next three seasons.

“He offers so much pace and trickery and he has developed his game since he first arrived here.

“Callum still has more to give and I’m glad that he has committed to this club as we want him to realise his undoubted potential. We are all delighted to continue working with someone who is a great human being as well as a highly talented footballer.”

O’Dowda added: “I’m delighted to have this new contract and I’m really excited about the ambition of the club and the future. I’m determined to carry on giving my all and contributing to what we are striving for, which is taking Bristol City into the Premier League.”
