Richard O’Donnell is confident Bristol City will continue to make strides in the Sky Bet Championship.
The goalkeeper joined the club in January and became an ever-present in the league, helping Lee Johnson’s side to an 18th place finish - 12 points above the drop zone.
While many of the squad took a break from football after the conclusion of last season, O’Donnell maintained his football fix by watching hometown club Sheffield Wednesday in the play-offs.
The Owls suffered a 1-0 loss to Hull City in the final and O’Donnell believes City aren’t too far behind the sides at the top of the second tier.
"I don’t think there is loads in the teams,” he told Bristol City Player HD.
“The teams at the top spend the most money which probably happens in every league going.
“Each team has very good individual players, as do we so moving forward we don’t see any reason why we can’t be looking up and pushing on from last season."
O’Donnell has been at City almost six months after joining from opening day opponents Wigan Athletic in January.
The 27-year-old took part in his first pre-season session with the club when the players returned to Failand yesterday and says he has loved his time on BS3 to date.
“Everyone has been brilliant and I’m really enjoying my time here,” he said.
“It’s a club moving forward in terms of the stadium and wanting to push on in the league. It’s a great club to play for and a great place to be at."
Season Tickets for the 2022/23 campaign are selling at a record pace, with more than 9,000 supporters already committed.
