Midfielder Joe Morrell has signed a new City contract until June 2022 with the option of a further year for the Wales international.
The 22-year-old, who on Tuesday helped his country qualify for Euro 2020, is the latest of Bristol City’s Academy former scholars to sign a new deal.
Morrell, who made an impressive League debut against Ipswich Town in November 2018 is currently on loan at League One Lincoln City.
City Chief Executive Mark Ashton said: “We are delighted to have secured Joe for the next few years. He is a credit to himself and our Academy and further testament to the talent and development programme we have here at Bristol City.”
Alongside the likes of Josh Brownhill, Niclas Eliasson, Han-Noah Massengo, Ádám Nagy, Kasey Palmer, Sammie Szmodics and fellow loanees James Morton (Forest Green Rovers) and Liam Walsh (Coventry City), Morrell is part of an impressive group of Robins midfielders aged 24 and under.
Head Coach Lee Johnson said: “I’m really happy for Joe. He’s had to work hard and it’s paid off with his Wales caps and now this new contract. He’s really benefitted from his loan spells at Cheltenham Town and now Lincoln City, where he is getting regular first team football, and we are looking forward to seeing him progress further.”
