New Boys Were Fantastic - Johnson

Lee Johnson was delighted with how his new players settled into Ashton Gate life in Saturday’s goalless draw with Fleetwood Town.

Jens Hegeler and Bailey Wright both gave assured performances in a new-look back three alongside Aden Flint.

Up top, Milan Djuric put himself about well on debut, playing up front with 17-goal top scorer Tammy Abraham.

Johnson told bcfc.co.uk of his recruits: “The new boys were fantastic.

“It was difficult for them because we only really had one day to prepare the team, with all three new boys involved and a change of formation as well.

“Jens Hegeler looked like a Rolls Royce; he showed the top class player that he is. He can play in defence or midfield and we’d love to clone him to have one of him in each position!

“Bailey did exactly what it says on the tin; he was strong, solid and sturdy.

“We got the ball into the big man Djuric on a number of occasions and he went close to scoring. We still need to work on getting him and Tammy closer together, but that will come over time in training.

“All in all it was a perfect game to get them bedded in ahead of the derby game with Cardiff.”

Tickets remain on general sale for Saturday’s Severnside derby with Cardiff, which kicks off at the earlier time of midday. Call 0117 963 0600 to book or buy online.
