Nagy demands focus after summer break

Bristol City must be “focused from the start” when they return to action ahead of the 2020/21 season.

That was the reaction of midfielder Ádám Nagy, after he helped City in their 1-1 draw with Preston North End on Wednesday night.

The result secured a mid-table finish thanks to City’s Player of the Season Famara Diédhiou who pounced against the Lilywhites with his 14th goal of the season.

It brought the campaign to a close, and despite some improvements in the latter fixtures, the City camp are well aware they left it too late to turn the tide.

Immediately after the full-time whistle, Nagy reflected on the importance of the short break ahead and assessing the season that was.

 “We are disappointed because it’s not the finish we wanted after the break,” Nagy said with the Robins picking up two wins, two draws and five defeats since football’s restart. “We started really badly, and it was hard to climb our way back.

“Now with the last game finished we have two and-a-half weeks off. We have to enjoy that free time with loved ones, our family, our friends. After those two and-a-half weeks we will be back and we have to be focused from the start.

“We have to look at our past games, see what we did well and find some good things that we can build on.”

City were slow in the first half against Preston but they bounced back after falling behind. There was an energy shift in the second period and it’s more of that which they will need going forward.

Nagy added: “It was a really intense game, they also had chances but we had some good chances too. We tried to control the game, sometimes we did that well, especially in the second half.”
