Chris Martin has enjoyed an influential start to his City career with a number of impressive performances, helping City maintain their 100% winning form in the Sky Bet Championship.
That resumes this Saturday with an away trip to Barnsley (October 17th), the first of seven games over a three-week period before the next international break.
He leads the Championship’s tally with three assists and has one goal (v Northampton Town in the Carabao Cup) as the striker looks to build on his all-round game for the benefit of the team.
“I still think there’s more to come but I feel really good with how things have gone so far,” Martin said. “I’ve not had a settling in period because it was so easy to make myself a part of the group. All staff and players made it as easy as it could have been and we’ve had success on the pitch which always make things a little bit smoother.
“I prefer wining first of all and I do like to score as well, as strikers are judged on their goals, but if I’m able to contribute with assists it shows all aspects of my game. I think it’s something else I can bring but hopefully some others can return the favour as well,” he said, as Martin eyes more goals.
His link-up play has been a much-talked about trait with superb volleyed passes across the box to set up Nahki Wells’ goals against Stoke City and Nottingham Forest just two examples.
Discussing his partnerships, City’s number seven said: “First and foremost they are good players but also good people which makes it a lot easier to develop that understanding.
“We’ve seen it across the board, not just between me and Nahki, even guys coming on to the field as substitutes, I feel there is a really good blend of attributes between us.
“I think those partnerships will continue to flourish no matter who is on the pitch and that’s something that will be very important across the season – that hunger and desire to improve and push each other and make each other better.”
City face Barnsley at Oakwell this Saturday (3pm KO), with the match to be streamed live and exclusively on Robins TV. Coverage starts at 2.30pm.
