Mixed Emotions For Johnson

Lee Johnson was left with mixed emotions after City battled back from 2-0 down to earn a point in a game they dominated at Rotherham United.

Both goals conceded left the head coach scratching his head – as did the scoreline with only 16 minutes left – but Tammy Abraham and Bobby Reid struck from close range to restore parity.

The City head coach had made a triple substitution just after the hour, as Callum O’Dowda entered the fray along with debutants Joel Ekstrand and Jamie Paterson, who hit the post with a 20-yard thunderbolt in the 90th minute.

“It’s mixed emotions really,” Johnson told Bristol City Player HD. “I thought we were fantastic throughout the game – I’m really disappointed with the goals, but we could’ve won it comfortably.

“I was really pleased with the players who started and the subs who came on, because they really affected the game and they looked bright.

“I had to go for it. In the end they couldn’t hold on and if there had been another five minutes in the game, who knows what might’ve happened.

“Yes, our finishing has left a little bit to be desired – someone has just said we had 35 shots today – but we’ve scored two, we’ve hit the post and we’ve had one cleared off the line.

“We’ve just got to move our bits that are a little bit schoolboy up to average and we’ll be a pretty decent side.

“If we’d have scored first we may well have demoralised them. When they scored first we had to stay consistent and keep moving the ball around.

“At one point I couldn’t fathom how we hadn’t scored – I know they had a couple of chances too, but if it had been 8-4 to us that might’ve been fair!”
