Mixed emotions for Benković after draw

Filip Benković was left both proud and sad as he reflected on a share of the points in the 1-1 draw with Stoke City.

The towering defender scored with a curling shot to put City ahead just before the break, but the Potters fought back through Danny Batth’s header.

City are now three games unbeaten but it’s a result which leaves their top-six destiny more out of their hands.

“Yes we felt we played a good game,” Benković said. “We made lots of good chances, we conceded a lucky goal from the cross but I’m proud of how the boys played, how they pushed each other because we felt in these games the team spirit has been on top level.

“It’s a shame we didn’t take three points because we deserved it.”

Benkovic’s strike was a sweet hit as he picked out the far corner but he was quick to praise Andreas Weimann for finding him, with the Austrian grabbing his fourth assist in two games.

Benković added: “I have to say well done to Andi because he saw me alone. After training I like to stay with the strikers and work on my finishing but I have to say that’s less important because I’m sad we didn’t take the three points because we’ve had a good run in these last couple of games.”
