👀 A LOOK BACK: City Women 3-0 Blackburn Rovers (Sun, Nov 14th)

A record attendance of 3,053 watched City Women thump Rovers 3-0 at Ashton Gate.

City opened the scoring midway through the first period as Abi Harrison sent a cross into the box from the left which was turned into the Rover’s net by defender Helen Seed, much to the delight of crowd.

The Robins then doubled their lead in the 71st minute, Aggie Beever-Jones latched onto a pass down the right and tested the goalkeeper, but she could only parry it as far as Harrison, who made no mistake in scoring the second of the afternoon.

Beever-Jones then picked out the top corner with a sublime left-footed effort which would seal all three points in a dominant display from the Robins.

🆚 OUR OPPONENTS: Lewes FC Women

  • Formed: 2002
  • Stadium: The Dripping Pan
  • Nickname: The Rookettes
  • Manager: Simon Parker
  • Finish last season: 5th, Championship

The Robins welcome a familiar opponent to BS8 this evening having already faced the Rookettes twice this season.

Both sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in pre-season before meeting in round two of the FA Championship, with the Robins coming out on top to win 2-1 and claim their first three points of the season.

The two sides have been separated by the finest of margins in their previous match-up and only a point currently separates them in the league table.

City sit top of Conti Cup Group D after a last-gasp victory over WSL outfit Reading. Lewes are finely poised in the group after picking up a point from the opening round of fixture against Crystal Palace. However, they missed out on an additional point losing their penalty shootout (3-4) to the Eagles.

👀 ONE TO WATCH

INI UMOTONG

The 27-year-old began her career at Portsmouth in 2014, where her goalscoring prowess helped the FA Women’s Premier League South side claim their seventh successive Hampshire Cup, league title and narrowly miss out on promotion to WSL 2.

After bagging 29 goals in 25 matches in the 2014/15 season, Umotong moved to Oxford United where she continued her fine form in front of goal.

Her performances earned a move to WSL side Brighton & Hove Albion in 2017, where she spent two and half seasons netting 11 goals in 46 appearances for the Seagulls.

She ventured abroad in 2020 to Swedish side Växjö DFF before returning to the South East and joining Lewes in the summer of 2021.

The Nigerian striker has represented her country on the international stage, earning seven caps to date and scoring one goal for the Super Falcons.
