👀 A LOOK BACK: Bristol City 5-1 Sheffield United (Sun, Oct 31st)

City Women recorded their largest margin of victory so far this season in their dismantling of the Blades at the Robins HPC last Sunday.

Lucy Watson handed the visitors an early lead but a quickfire double from Abi Harrison and Aimee Palmer put the Robins back in front no less than five minutes later.

Harrison coolly tucked Aggie Beever-Jones cross into the far corner before Palmer rifled a half-volley into the bottom corner.

Following the half-time break, Palmer had her second as she scored directly from a corner kick to put City in a commanding position.

Chloe Bull then headed home to bag her first City goal, with Melissa Johnson rounding off a five-star performance as she poked home against her former side.

🆚 OUR OPPONENTS: Coventry United

  • Formed: 2013
  • Stadium: Butts Park Arena
  • Nickname: Cov United Ladies
  • Manager: Jay Bradford
  • Finish last season: 10th (FA Championship)

The club was originally founded in 2013 as Coventry City Ladies until two years later in 2015 when the switch affiliations in the city to merge with non-league side Coventry United and relocate to the Butts Park Arena.

The club were crowned Champions of the National League South in 2019, which saw the Midlands-based side promoted to the Championship. Two hard fought seasons have followed in the second tier as United finished 9th and 10th in the 19/20 and 20/21 seasons respectively.

Coventry United currently occupy 11th in the Championship without win from their first seven fixtures of the 2021/22 campaign.

United’s only point of the season has come against London City Lionesses in round four after a 2-2 draw.

Jay Bradford side were minutes away from gaining another point last weekend until Blackburn Rovers cruelly snatched all three points with a 94th -minute winner to claim a 3-2 victory.

👀 ONE TO WATCH

RIO HARDY

The 25-year-old forward joined Coventry United in the summer transfer window from Cypriot side Apollon Ladies, where she represented the club in the Women’s Champions League.

The Lake District native is already well-travelled in her young career. After attending the Blackburn Rovers Centre of Excellence, Hardy had stint in the USA and Iceland before landing in sun-kissed Limassol.

Since returning to England in the summer Hardy has shone for United scoring three goals to date this campaign.
