McCoulsky Joins Torquay On Loan

Shawn McCoulsky has joined National League side Torquay United on a two-month loan deal until January 17th.

The striker has been in red-hot form, scoring regularly for City Under-23s – most recently a hat-trick in Monday’s 5-0 victory at Colchester United.

McCoulsky has already excelled on loan this season at Weston-super-Mare in National League South and will now put his talent to the test at a higher level.

“It’s good for Shawn, good for us and good for Torquay,” said City head coach Lee Johnson, who gave the 19-year-old his first team debut against Hull City in the EFL Cup last month.

“It’s a natural progression for him, having done very well in the league below at Weston-super-Mare.

“Now he’s stepping up to the Conference for a couple of months and he’s got to go and prove himself at that level.

“He’s had his little taste of the first team, which was a reward for his good performances in the Under-23s.

“Every young player has to move up the levels and Shawn has to earn the right to do that. We believe, and he believes, that Torquay is the right fit for him at this moment in time.”

The Gulls are currently 18th in the National League, just two points above the relegation zone.

McCoulsky will hope to make an immediate impact when Torquay host Wrexham at Plainmoor on Saturday.
